Adriana Cortés
Adriana Cortés, M.A., Ph.D. candidate. She is a clinical psychologist who has been working for over 26 years at the Child & Adolescent Unit, an outpatient clinic, at the Hospital Calderón Guardia (a General Hospital) and at her private practice.
She did her undergraduate program in Psychology at Mc Gill University, Montreal, Canada and her Residency in Clinical Psychology, at the National Psychiatric Hospital and at the National Children's Hospital in San José, Costa Rica.
She got her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at the Universidad de Iberoamérica in 1998, San José, Costa Rica.
Currently she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Clinical Neuropsychology doctoral program taught at the Universidad de Iberoamérica campus by the University of Salamanca, Spain.
Her clinical experience starts back in 1974 and for 35 years now she has been in the practice of clinical psychology. Her teaching experience amounts to 34 years at the university level.
She has hosted American psychology students and faculty staff participating in the University’s international programs at the Psychology Unit of Hospital Calderón Guardia where students have attended case discussion meetings with her multidisciplinary team.
Ana Catalina Vargas F.
Ana Catalina Vargas was trained at Albert Ellis Institute, New York in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. And obtained a Master degree in Clinical Psychology, at Universidad de Iberoamérica (USA Equivalent).
Professional Experience:
- Founder and Director of Centro Costarricense de Terapia Racional Emotiva Conductual CETREC (Albert Ellis Institute Affiliated Training Center).
- Clinical Psychologist at Clínica Bíblica Hospital, and at the National Psychiatric Hospital for five years.
- Universidad de Iberoamérica, Professor (Bachelor, Licentiate and Master degrees).

Eric J. Fuchs
Dr. Fuchs is professor of genetics at Universidad de Iberoamérica and has been lecturing on the topic for over ten years. Professor Fuchs obtained his BS and MS degrees at Universidad de Costa Rica in Biology and Genetics, respectively. As a Fulbright fellow, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (USA) on population and molecular genetics. Dr. Fuchs has taught various international courses for the Organization of Tropical Studies (OTS) and has been involved as a consultant for WWF in topics relating to global warming. He is also adjunct faculty for the Masters program in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development at University for Peace (UNESCO). Dr. Fuchs has published his research on various international journals and is currently a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals such as American Journal of Botany and Journal of Heredity. He is currently involved in various international research projects on environmental and health related issues; and is the President of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Universidad de Iberoamérica (CEC/ Universidad de Iberoamérica).
Roberto G. Rodríguez
Dr. Rodríguez has a Ph.D. from the Dept. of School Psychology and Research of The University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. He also has a M.Sc. in Education and a B.Sc. majoring in Psychology from the same University.
Dr. Rodríguez was a tenured Professor of The University of Costa Rica, where he taught since 1976. He taught Multivariate Statistics Analysis, Applied Psychometrics, Research Methods, Seminar on Ethics in Psychology and School Psychology. He currently is the Provost and Dean of Psychology at Universidad de Iberomérica in San José.
Dr. Rodríguez is a Costa Rican citizen and he has been active as consultant and lecturer in Costa Rica and Central America, under contract for the United Nation Development Program (UNDP), the Organization of American States (OAS). He has presented papers in many conferences and has published many articles, in journals like Psychology in the Schools, Psychological Reports, Journal of Instructional Psychology, and Focus on the Family Magazine.
Since 1994, he has developed a parent education program at Clinica Bíblica Hospital and he published for more than 10 years the column “Tesoro Familiar”, in the newspaper La Nación. Other articles have been published in the magazine Niños and El Financiero of La Nación Group. He also has published five books on topics related to parenting and children education: “100 preguntas y respuestas acerca de los hijos” (ISBN 9977-12-284-9), “Deficit Atencional” (ISBN 9977-88-71-9), ¿Cómo apoyar a los hijos con el estudio?” (ISBN 9977-88-73-5), “Disciplina de los hijos” (ISBN 9977-88-070-0) y “La autoestima de los hijos” (ISBN 9977-88-72-7).
He is often an invited speaker to several public and private elementary and high schools, and church congregations, talking to parents and teachers about student motivation and self-esteem, helping kids to learn, school violence prevention, family life, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disabilities. Also he is often an invited speaker to “Buen Día”, a Channel 7 talk show; and for three years he had a radio program in Radio Monumental with open-line advising parents and teachers
Dr. Rodríguez is a member of the National Association of School Psychology (NASP) and Colegio Profesional de Psicólogos de Costa Rica. He has been married for 34 years and has two sons.
Humberto Fonseca
Humberto Fonseca C., M.Sc. Intensive Care Nurse, started his academic education at Universidad de Costa Rica, and specialized himself at Universidad de Iberoamérica. For fourteen years, Humberto has been the Dean of the Nursing School at UNIBE and the nurse head of the Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Mexico in San José, which is one of the major hospitals in Costa Rica.
Mariela Monterroso G.
Mariela Monterroso G., M.A. in Psychology. She has done a sub-specialty in Cognitive-Behavioral-Emotional Therapy with rotations in the National Psychiatric Hospital and Hospital Calderón Guardia. She has been a clinical supervisor at the Center for Neuropsychology of the Universidad de Iberoamérica, for five years.
Paula Llobet
Dr. Llobet is a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in Costa Rica. She holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Universidad de Costa Rica, a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Universidad de Iberoamérica, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, CA. She completed three clinical rotations in State hospitals in Costa Rica and one-year long internships at an inpatient psychiatric facility and two outpatient community clinics in San Diego, CA.
She worked in California as a Juvenile Diversion Counselor with the El Cajon Police Department providing case management services for first and second-time young offenders, as well as with the Spring Valley Recreational Center offering counseling to adolescents as part of their after-school program. In addition, she worked with the Southwest Key Program and provided psychological evaluations and brief psychotherapy to minors who were detained crossing the United States border.
Dr. Llobet specializes in clinical hypnosis; her doctoral thesis explored small group hypnotherapy as a treatment modality for phobias. Currently, she works in a multidisciplinary clinic at a private hospital, has her own private practice, and teaches graduate students at the Universidad de Iberoamérica.
Tamara Fuster
Tamara Fuster has a Licentiate degree in Psychology from Universidad de Costa Rica (University of Costa Rica) and a master’s degree from Arizona State University, thanks to a Fulbright scholarship. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Arizona. Tamara has worked with children and adolescents in many different educational contexts in Costa Rica, England and the United States. She is a faculty member of the Master Program of the School of Psychology from Universidad de Iberoamérica.
